Learning from and with each other in a Faculty Learning Community
Our Spring 2025 Faculty Learning Community (FLC) took on a fresh format – one that had not been tried before at Capilano University. It invited participants to explore a topic that they wanted to know more about and then facilitate a session on that topic. What unfolded was a rich learning journey against the backdrop of a shifting educational landscape that was grounded in curiosity, compassion, and co-creation. The topics included alternative forms of grading, critical generative AI literacy, authentic assessments, learning from failing, a pedagogy of kindness, and student motivation.
Members of our Certificate of Teaching and Learning Cohort (CUTL) submitted artifacts based on their learning that focused on practical examples of each topic that can be applied to our own teaching. We are working on creating a shared site for the open-sourced artifacts to adapt, remix, and implement in your classrooms.
