This 24-hour workshop aims to introduce you to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). We will discuss the motives and principles of SoTL, consider how SoTL can inform your teaching practice, and explore how you can incorporate a scholarly lens to your practice. As participant in this 24-hour series, you will also have an opportunity to work through the practicalities of mounting a SoTL project from conceiving a research question, considering ethics and identifying funding opportunities to collecting data, conducting analyses and dessimenating your work.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the key characteristics of SoTL
  • Critically examine current scholarship in teaching and learning
  • Develop a SoTL research question arising from own teaching experience or discipline
  • Identify SoTL research strategies
  • Understand the SoTL research process from conceptualization to dissemination
  • Conduct a literature review based on a SoTL question
  • Disseminate literature review
