Centre for Teaching Excellence

Educational Technology

We support educators of all experience levels in the use of educational technology to create engaging and effective learning experiences.

Here are the key tools that we support:

  • ELearn
  • Videoconferencing
  • Kaltura Streaming Video
  • Pressbooks
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
Adobe CC access is granted to all employees and to all student labs. If you need a product installed in a lab, contact Digital Technology Services (DTS) and they will deploy it. Adobe CC was offered to all students free of charge by Adobe during the summer of 2020 in the midst of the pandemic – it is no longer offered by Adobe. Adobe CC is offered to specific online or distance classes for at home use. For an online course, you must submit your request to your Dean, who will in turn forward this request to the Director of DTS at CapU. Note that there is a per seat cost incurred for this offering.

Classroom Technology

Classrooms have a variety of digital equipment available. If you are teaching on campus, check out your classroom space ahead of your first class and test any audiovisual equipment set up and connections. The Digital Technology Services (DTS) department can help you with room bookings and set up for computer labs and specific needs. They will also  loan you equipment for both short and long term purposes.

This instructional video will show you how to use the wireless setup in classrooms with newer setups.

New Educational Technology

The Educational Technology and Learning Environments (ETLE) Committee reviews requests for new educational technology and makes recommendations to Digital Technology Services. Information has been posted on Frontlines here – Educational Technology and Learning Environment (ETLE) Committee – Capilano University Employee Portal

FIPPA

Like all post-secondary institutions in BC, Capilano University is subject to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Protection Act (FIPPA). This has implications for the use of online technologies which cannot expose student data without their permission. Read the Capilano University Privacy Statement for details.
