Centre for Teaching Excellence
Who We AreThe Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) fosters a distinct university experience for students by cultivating an intentional community of educators and walking alongside them to envision and create high-quality, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences. We empower faculty, listening to our community as we thoughtfully shift between educator and learner, providing research-informed programming, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
Our Commitments:
- We put people first through deep respect, inviting everyone to arrive as they are and as they are able; all are welcome here. We establish and advocate for accountable, inclusive, and diverse spaces. We show up with humility and vulnerability, exercising compassion and self-awareness. We honour each other’s experiences, perspectives, and well-being.
- We engage in research-informed practices and programming, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and continuous lifelong learning.
- We are committed to continuously evaluating the impact of educational technologies on the learning experience with a focus on enhancing human connection, deepening learning experiences, and expanding access to knowledge.
- We walk together in collaboration. We encourage and facilitate co-learning and co-creating. We value relationships and connections in our learning communities.
Our Actions:
- Conduct and facilitate SoTL research and support collaborative, research-informed learning.
- Expand just-in-time supports and design and deliver research-informed programming, resources, and support for educational technologies.
- Collaborate across the university and beyond; facilitate collaboration between faculty members.
- Honour and celebrate the teaching and learning journeys and the transformative impacts of teaching on students across and beyond the university.
- Collaboratively develop internal processes and systems to smoothly support the above actions.
The Centre is located in Fir 402 and provides both in person and online support to a broad range of faculty across the campus. Check out our website for more information about upcoming workshops and programs.
