Banner

The Registrar’s Office maintains student records in the Banner system. This is where you will find class lists, wait lists and where you will enter your final grades. Your Department Administrator can help you with any questions about this system. This Faculty User Manual will help you navigate this system.

ELearn

Every course at Capilano University has a course shell created for it in eLearn, which is built on Moodle, an open source Content Management System. To find your course shell, sign in and go to elearn.capu.ca. Your course will appear in the Dashboard.

Welcome to Students

Use the Announcements forum in eLearn to post a welcome to your students before the first day of class. Messages posted here will also be sent out via email to all students who have not changed their notification settings. This is an opportunity to introduce yourself and your syllabus, connect students with the services they need and to create a strong teaching presence in your course. You can do this with text, images, video – any format that works for you. Add this information to your course site as well so that students can refer back to it at any time.

Three Key Ideas to Get You and Your Students Off to a Strong Start

First Day

Before your first day of class:

  1. Check your class list in Banner.
  2. Review your department’s requirements for grading and reports.
  3. Prepare your course site in eLearn and set up your Gradebook.
  4. Post an announcement on Elearn or use the class email list to send a welcome message to all students.

These templates will help you quickly organize your course materials:
