Scholarship of Teaching & LearningScholarly Teaching and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
Scholarly Teaching is evidence-based teaching informed by theory. It is grounded in critical reflection and involves systematically gathering evidence and research and applying it to learning. In contrast the the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the systematic inquiry through diverse research methodologies into questions related to teaching practices and student learning that are shared publicly to advance the field of teaching and learning.
The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) involves post-secondary practitioners conducting inquiry into teaching and learning processes in higher education contexts.” (Poole & Simmons, 2013)
