We recommend that all instructors clearly outline if and how students can use Generative AI tools by doing the following:

  1. Determine under which circumstances and for which uses students may or may not use GenAI tools;
  2. Post your class guidelines in your syllabus and on your eLearn site;
  3. Talk with your students about your guidelines early and often;
  4. Facilitate discussions on the safe and responsible uses of Generative AI;
  5. Stay up to date on the practical implications of Generative AI in your field;
  6. Avoid the use of AI detection tools;
  7. Be transparent about your own use of Generative AI.
