Designed by the UBC’s Indigenous Initiatives Team at the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) and hosted by Capilano University’s CTE, the What I Learned in Class Today: Care in the Classroom workshop will support faculty to develop a better understanding of why care is a foundational pedagogical practice and how to implement acts of care in their classroom particularly when navigating Indigenous topics in the learning space. Alongside reflective practice and discussion, faculty will hear stories shared by UBC Vancouver campus students about their experiences with campus and classroom climate on Indigenous engagement in teaching and learning.
Workshop Learning Outcome:
- Develop a better understanding of what care means as a pedagogical practice and in particular the importance of it when navigating Indigenous topics in the classroom and post-secondary learning spaces.
- Learn how to center Indigenous student experiences in the classroom and how doing so benefits all students.
