Negar Elmieh, MPH, PhD (she/her)

Negar (she/her) is an interdisciplinary educator and environmental health scientist.  She joins the Centre for Teaching Excellence with over 20 years of experience in higher education, with a focus on creating innovative academic programs and facilitating meaningful and transformative experiences for students.  Academically, she is driven to bridge the gap between research and policy to create meaningful change around environmental health and climate change.  She holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia as well as a Master of Science and Master of Public Health from Tufts University in Boston, MA.  Prior to joining Capilano University, Negar was a faculty member at Quest University for 13 years where she was a faculty member, Coordinator of Life Sciences, and held various academic leadership roles.

Outside of work, Negar chases her family and rescue dog around exploring mountain trails and beaches.  She dreams of snow, is scheming how to become a better mountain biker, and is learning to play the cello.

Capilano University is named after Chief Joe Capilano, an important leader of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) Nation of the Coast Salish people. We respectfully acknowledge that our campuses are located on the unceded sovereign Indigenous Nations of Lil’wat, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm(Musqueam), Shíshálh (Sechelt), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh(Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh).
