WCTEA Speaker Series: Anna Sterankova

Being a busy instructor who often uses time in the cracks to innovate and adapt in the age of AI, slowing down to deeply reflect on my teaching while developing the dossier for West Coast Teaching Excellence Award was both a massive challenge and a gift. Good teaching matters, yet the winding path toward becoming a good teacher is alive with risk, question, experimentation, and trying again.

During my presentation, I will share the lessons learned and a framework for fostering trust and student well-being, designing for equity, and rooting learning in community and place, while thoughtfully integrating technology and AI into my teaching practice.

Speaker Bio

Anna Sterankova, CPA, is a member of the teaching faculty at Coast Mountain College, bringing more than a decade of experience across accounting and finance. Anna brings together business education, place-based learning, entrepreneurial thinking, and community engagement. Her teaching is grounded in creating inclusive, relationship-rich learning environments and connecting classroom learning to real-world challenges and opportunities in northwestern British Columbia.

Anna is also passionate about climate action and the role that businesses, communities, and individuals can play in building more resilient and sustainable futures. A lifelong learner and curious traveller, she is inspired by different cultures and perspectives and brings these experiences into her teaching and life. Outside of work, Anna enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and dogs.
