DESCRIPTION:Community-engaged teaching and learning (CeTL) is just what it sounds like: teaching and learning that is focused upon\, takes place in\, and partners with communities. Whether it is in your classroom\, program area\, Capilano University\, or the greater community\, at the core of CeTL is building and reinforcing community!\n \n \n \nSupporting this key initiative of Capilano University’s 10-year Academic Plan\, Illuminating 2030\, the Centre for Teaching Excellence is proud to announce that CeTL will be the theme for this year’s 2022 Teaching and Learning Symposium\, taking place in-person at our main North Vancouver campus from Tues May 3 – Fri May 6\, 2022.\n \n \n \nCeTL\, an experiential approach to teaching and learning\, invites the community into the classroom allowing learners to work on authentic problems\, questions\, or issues presented by or relevant to community partners.\n \n \n \nThis year’s Symposium will allow participants to learn from the many variations of the CeTL model that thrive in Capilano University classrooms and the wider community\, from experiential learning activities\, work-integrated and practice-based learning\, to imagining new and stronger relationships within and beyond the classroom.\n \n \nSign up now!

DESCRIPTION:If you’ve done faculty evaluations as a chair/coordinator or convenor\, or evaluation of a peer\, you may have thought to yourself “there has got to be a better way!” And you are right! \nWhat to Expect: \nBy participating in the Peer Observation Workshop\, you will learn how to conduct more effective peer observations and practice the skills and techniques used in the peer observation process. And you’ll also get a chance to “test drive” proposed changes to our coordinator and colleague report form for faculty evaluations that are being undertaken in cooperation with the CFA and HR. \nIn addition to the time (9 hours) we spend together on line\, there are some readings and activities we’d like you to complete prior to each session. \nDates:  \nWednesdays May 11\, 18 and 25\, 2022 from 9:00-12:00 on Zoom \nCompensation: \nThere will be compensation for chairs\, coordinators\, and convenors who will be paid a week’s salary if they complete the 24-hour peer observation workshop plus 6 hours of HR workshops adding up to a total of 30 hours. \nFor those of you in other faculty roles\, this 24-hour workshop is valuable PD time that you can include on your PD report. \n  \nHow to Register: \nGet in touch with Lori Walker loriwalker@capilanou.ca ASAP if you are interested and would like more information\, or would like to register. \nYou may also RSVP to the HR Training Calendar at this link \n  \n
